Steve Engelbrecht

Hi, I'm Steve Engelbrecht – a technology entrepreneur, writer, and composer based in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina.

My Journey

With over two decades of experience in the technology sector, I've had the privilege of working on diverse projects ranging from startups to enterprise solutions. In parallel, I've spent even longer on and around the stage as a singer, actor, musician, and writer. Over the last several years that creative work has grown from a passion into a serious second discipline.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Cornell University, and my MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sitation

My primary business is Sitation, a consultancy, agency, and software company specializing in the important area of PIM/PXM (Product Information Management / Product Experience Management), which is a critical function of merchandising operations in the e-commerce world. I started Sitation in 2001 as a one-man shop from a rented apartment in Somerville, MA. Today it's a 70-person powerhouse that has won dozens of awards and earned recognition 5 times on the prestigious Inc 5000 list, including twice in the top 500. We work with some of the largest and best-known companies in the world - household names - and it's humbling and exciting to continue to steer the ship as we grow and evolve.

As an industry expert in PIM, I frequently speak at industry events, sharing insights and best practices with fellow professionals. You can learn more about my upcoming speaking engagements on my events page.

Music & Theatre

I'm an experienced vocalist, actor, writer, and composer. My current focus is If I Could Go, a full-length original musical for which I wrote the book, music, and lyrics. It is being presented as a staged showcase at the 2026 Spark Theatre Festival NYC, produced by Emerging Artists Theatre, featuring Broadway veterans Andréa Burns and Marc Kudisch, with a cast of 6 principals, 6 in the ensemble, and a 4-piece traditional Irish band.

Philosophy

I believe in the power of technology to transform lives and businesses. My approach combines technical excellence with a deep understanding of user needs, ensuring that every solution I create delivers real value. I'm committed to continuous learning, collaboration, and sharing knowledge in the communities in which I take part.

You'll find some of my experiments, projects and publications here on this website.

Beyond Work

Above everything else, I am husband to Lauren, and Daddy to three beautiful children. I'm also an avid reader, a decent home chef, and a bit of a wine snob.
