If I Could Go

A new full-length musical with book, music, and lyrics by Steve Engelbrecht. Written in 2025; first performance April 23, 2026.

If I Could Go

About the Show

If I Could Go is a contemporary musical reimagining of the Irish myth of Tír na nÓg — the Land of Youth. It moves between modern Dublin and a timeless otherworld, telling a story about love, grief, and the courage to hope again.

I wrote the book, music, and lyrics over the course of 2025. The score draws on pop and traditional Celtic influences, performed by a small ensemble built around a traditional Irish band. At its heart, the show is about the kind of bravery that lives outside of battles — the courage to tell the truth, to let go, and to choose love without guarantees.

It is a deeply personal piece for me, and watching it come to life with this team has been one of the great joys of my creative life.
